Thirty Six

Updated: Dec 10, 2022

If Hitchcock is the king of suspense then John Ford is the king of the western. Hell, John Ford is the king of directing. He has won 6 academy awards, 4 for best director. Ten of his directed actors were nominated for an Oscar. Five won the award. He did 24 movies with John Wayne covering different genres. The Quiet Man with Maureen O'Hara from week seven is one. There are three westerns they did together that some call the cavalry trilogy. They are not really related other than the US Cavalry. Fort Apache (1949) with Henry Fonda (1), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and, with Miss O'Hara (of course), Rio Grande (1950), which is the selection for the week. Or watch all three...
