I think this is a very fitting post for the two hundred fiftieth one...
As I've done these bloggie post thingies, I've discovered writers and directors whose films I have enjoyed. Have I not typed that before? This particular one has already appeared in this blog 7 times as a director and 8 as a writer. And that's just so far. He has an early post from week 2 with a Shirley and Jack double mention,
The Apartment and
Irma la Douce.
He did both as writer and director. He also wrote and directed William in the film-noir classic from week 91,
Sunset Blvd.
And wrote the screenplay and directed William again in
Stalag 17
from week 38. And there's that insurance one from week 118 with Fred that he directed and did the screenplay for called
Double Indemnity.
This talented writer and director is known as Billy Wilder...
And now I can't decide on a movie. So, let's just do a double feature recommendation. Both directed and the screenplay written by Mr. Wilder. One being a biopic about the first airplane to fly across the Atlantic. James Stewart stars in the Spirit of St Louis (week 293). How much does a fly weigh? The other being a spy film. Well? He had no choice but to be a spy film. Adapted from the 1917 play Hotel Imperial written by Lajos Biro. Five Graves to Cairo (1943) stars Franchot Tone. Wonder where you can buy that Bramble whiskey?
Oh, did I mention? From week 115, he wrote the screenplay for
Ninotchka?
And Charles stars as the master Barrister in
Witness for the Prosecution
from week 29. Of course, written and directed by, as with
Ace in the Hole,
from week 120, which has a Kirk sighting in it. Well, he only wrote the screenplay for the Charles film...
...I think that's it...
