Sand Pebbles are what the crew of the USS San Pablo called themselves. The boat itself is a relic of the Spanish-American war of 1898. Now, somehow, well, in 1926 anyway, it's cruising the Yangtze river in China. It's a fictional gunboat. The movie The Sand Pebbles (1966) is adapted from the prize winning novel of the same name and is the selection for the week. It's not just a war film. It stars the ultra cool Steve McQueen (1), along with Richard Attenborough (2) and Mako (3)...
