Well, Mr. Wayne's True Grit ('69) has always been my favorite from the western genre. But, having just watched Open Range (2003) again, it now has another close challenger. It's easily on the 3 or 4 favorites list of westerns and it's the selection for the week. It has a superb cast. It is one of Kevin Costner best performances, his best western. Robert Duval (1) is outstanding as an older actor. Not so much when he was younger. And watching Annette Bening (2) is just subtle sweetness. She is (still) a stage actress who didn't make her film debut until she was 30.
