This week I'm recommending another silver screen adaptation of a novel. In the Heat of the Night was written by John Ball and published in 1965. The movie of the same name was released in 1965 and won five Oscar's. One being Best Picture. It stars Sidney Poitier (1) as Virgil Tibbs, I mean, Mr. Tibbs. A Philadelphia detective who is investigating a murder case in the sunny south, small town Mississippi. "They call me Mr. Tibbs!" is considered one of the top quotes in film history. It's worth watching just for that... There were two more 'Mr. Tibbs' movies made but they were not to the same standard as the first one.
(1) The Defiant Ones, 1958
