Gary Cooper (1) won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the 'conscientious objector' Alvine C. York, in the film, Sergeant York (1941). Alvine is one of the most decorated soldiers in WWI, including receiving the Medal of Honor. He was also a drunk and loved to fight, go figure. The selected picture of the week also stars Walter Brennan and George Tobias (2), another one of those great side kick actors. This film also won an Oscar for Best Editing and was nominated in nine other categories. And, Alvine finally got his bottom land...
