The Orson Welles version, re-edited in 1998. Written and directed by the legend. Well, he rewrote the script which is based on the 1956 novel 'Badge of Evil'. Critics didn't care much for it when it came out. What do they know? It's considered one of Wells best and one of the top film-noir movies of it's day. In 1993 it was selected for the National Film Registry.
"... I close this memo with a very earnest plea that you consent to this brief visual pattern to which I gave so many long hard days of work." Orson Wells...
The opening scene is a non stop unbroken sequence of about three minutes. Orson Wells genius. He also stars as the police captain. Charlton Heston plays the lawyer Vargas. Three female silver screen legends play parts in this film classic as well. Janet Leigh is Mrs. Vargas, in a nightie. Marlene Dietrich is Tanya with the chili and the eyes. And Zsa Zsa Gabor is the strip-club owner.
"Somebody's been monkeyin' in with them fuses. They think I'm gonna fix'm, They, they got'another thing comin'." the night manager.
