This week's selection is a John Wayne Western double feature. But the movies aren't related other than very similar stories. They are so good I couldn't decide which, so, watch'm both... Well, first, certain individuals at the time didn't want to see Mr. Wayne play the role of a drunk. Why? In the first selection, Rio Bravo (1959), Dean Martin (1) gets to be the drunk and John Wayne is the sheriff. Ricky Nelson (3), the singer, also stars in this one. In El Dorado (1966), the second selection, Robert Mitchum (2) gets to play the sheriff and the drunk. James Caan (4) plays a 'I can't shot so I throw knives' character. He doesn't sing either. The great Howard Hawks directs them both... Yes, that's a young Angie Dickinson in the pic...
