This will be a double blog week. Yes, you'll understand in a second...
The first one; This is another film I thoroughly enjoyed directed by Martin Ritt (1). A cold war, realistic spy film staring Richard Burton. And as George Smiley we have Rupert Davies. This movie was adapted from the novel of the same name written by the spy master writer John le Carre (A). This week's recommended selection is The Spy Who Came in from the Cold from 1965...
The second one; John le Carre (A) is a true spy writing genius. His character George Smiley (2) has appeared in nine different novels and in five of those he was the lead character. Two of those were turned into mini series, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley's People. Alec Guiness plays Smiley in those two. Not done yet. He also had two other novels turned into mini series, The Little Drummer Girl (3) and The Night Manager (4). If you enjoy the spy genre, you will enjoy all these. And this week's selection is The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965). Did I mention it already? I guess I could have done a writer blog?
