Here's another discovery. A very talented individual on both sides of the camera. She directed The Hitch-Hiker (1953), a drama. It's a National Film Registery selection from 1998 for being the first mainstream American film-noir movie directed by a woman. It's a loosely fictional tale of a real human... Also directed by Ida Lupino, The Trouble with Angels (1966), a comedy.
"Maybe one day Rachel'll come back and join the order." Mary.
"If she does, I quit!" Reverend Mother.
It's a nice comedy with a lovely ending. Both films are recommended for this week.
Any week.
On the other side of the lens, she stared in the Bogart classic High Sierra (1941). This week's other another recommendation, also from the acting side, Women's Prison (1955). A little story of life in a women's prison... I think that's a triple feature recommendation? Or quad? A double double feature?
She directed and helped write the screenplay for Outrage (1950) too. Her little sister makes an appearance in this one...
