...Three Hundred Eight

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

Yes, another music movie blog. Well, mostly about music. A double recommendation.

So, here are this week's selections.

One is a biopic directed by Clint Eastwood (1). It's based on the story of four boys from New Jersey who formed the iconic '60's group 'The Four Seasons' (2). It's was adapted from the 2004 Tony Award winning Broadway Musical of the same name, Jersey Boys (2014)...

The other one is a bit fictitious. A lot fictitious. A comedy based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle. The Commitments (1991) is a story of the forming of a soul band in a northern suburb of Dublin. It's considered one of Ireland's best movies and on the British Film Institute's top 40 list from the last century. It's also part of what's known as the 'Barrytown Trilogy'. All adapted from novels by Doyle. The second two are more dramas than comedies with sorta the same family and characters based in the fictitious northern suburb of Barrytown in Dublin. The middle movie of this trilogy is The Snapper (1993). Can't indulge what it's about (spoilers), other than a very good family dynamic film. The final movie is The Van (1996). Yes, it's about a van and about a friendship. They're both worth watching once. You may have to watch them a second time if you're not used to listening to English with an Irish accent. Colm Meaney (3) plays the dad in all three...

(1) Million Dollar Baby, week 11

The Commitments, Mustang Sally (1991)

(3) A star in two Star Trek TV series...
